Finding unit ideas in Maker Education for primary grades (ages 5-8) can be challenging. I often find myself coming across one exciting idea for a very specific lesson or project, but I have to find creative ways to better integrate it into a larger unit. I have started creating sample unit posters in hopes of helping educators understand that making in the primary grades is developmentally appropriate and that it can integrate into themes and ideas being taught. With each unit, I have made sure to include a piece of literature and an app where appropriate, that reinforce concepts. These sample posters are not meant to be followed exactly, rather, they are to provide a starting point that can be adapted for each classrooms own needs and interests.

Thanks for sharing, Angie! These are all great units to introduce to young students.
Hi Angie,
Your posters are great. What programme are you using ( if you don’t mind sharing ) 🙂
Thanks Jen! I used Canva.com to make the posters.
Oh thanks Angie,
I’ll have to check it out. I’m currently doing my Masters of Education- Teacher Librarianship course and I’m working in a group for our connected learning assignment. We’re trying to put together a resource for teachers, which is using books as a stimulus to create STEM projects. We’re trying to nut out a design process template and some examples to guide teachers. Then they can adapt it to other books. WE’re hoping to collate all this in a Flipboard.
Would you mind if we put your website link in our assignment as well (with attribution of course 🙂 ?? No worries if not.
Regards,
Jen
That sounds exciting! Please share when you are finished. I’d love to check it out. Of course you can use my blog! Thanks!
Oh wow thanks. I’ll check this with my team members of course but that’s the idea of connected learning isn’t it. We’re in Australia ?? so it’ll be aimed at our Australian curriculum.
BTW- you’re up late!! ?
