Billy Green is a Chemistry teacher for the New York City Department of Education in the South Bronx, New York. The mission of his work is to create spaces for learning that empower marginalized people to find their place in STEAM by being responsive to the multiple identities of individuals. He was the Science Department Chair at Frederick Douglass Academy III; the Curriculum Coach for STEM at East River Academy, located on the Riker’s Island Correctional Facility; and served as a Peer Collaborative Teacher for Bronx District 9. In 2019, he was awarded the Math for America Master Teacher fellowship and facilitates professional development seminars for STEM Teachers across NYC. In an effort to expand his community outreach, Billy partners with East Harlem community-based organizations to provide sustainable inclusive programming for LGBTQ youth which provide educational, social, and emotional support, in a safe space. He is currently collaborating with Opus Dance Theatre, Inc. to develop international Arts in Education camps in Africa that use Arts to create, preserve, and advocate the cultures of indigenous people. Billy is a candidate for a PhD in Science Education at Teachers College, Columbia University and has degrees from New York University and Williams College.
